IndigiNews, an Indigenous-led media outlet has been nominated for two Canadian Online Publishing Awards (COPAs). Reporter Kelsie Kilawna of the Okanagan team was nominated under the categories Best Photojournalism and Best Continued News Coverage of a Story. Check out media coverage of the COPAs here. Winners will be announced in February 2021.
Kelsie along with her fellow reporters Chehala Leonard, Athena Bonneau and Lindsay Sample were also nominated for a Jack Webster Award under the category Best Community Reporting for the series, Sharing Indigenous News and Perspectives in the Okanagan. The winners of the Jack Webster Awards were announced in early December. Check out media coverage here.
Inspirit’s grant helped IndigiNews hire a full-time Indigenous editor to build staff capacity. The editor will also share IndigiNews’ decolonizing approach to journalism and document the impact of the team’s work.
