Hot Docs Launches Inspirit-supported Podcast Development Lab
Inspirit is proud to announce the launch of the Hot Docs Podcast Development Lab for emerging BIPOC podcasters.
The year-round Lab was launched at the Hot Docs Podcast Festival. In addition to a $1,000 creator grant to hone their skills, emerging podcasters will be mentored by seasoned audio creators, and create an audio calling card to advance their careers. Five podcasters will take part in the Lab this spring. Check out more details here.
Inspirit is also co-presenting Personal Storytelling: How To Do It Right Without Selling Your Soul, a podcast featuring producers Tori Allen, Garvia Bailey, Nana aba Duncan, and Hannah Sung at the Festival. They will speak about responsible podcasting on issues related to race, class, and abilities. Stream the podcast here.
Other podcasters include hosts of the New York Times’ Nice White Parents and 1619 on how they’re using podcasts to talk openly about race, Connie Walker, host of CBC’s Missing and Murdered on the erasure of women of colour from true crime stories, Canadaland hosts discussing their reporting of the WE Charity scandal, Roxane Gay, bestselling author and host of the Hear to Slay podcast , and storytellers from acclaimed shows such as Pod Save America, Reply All, Pop Chat, You’re Wrong About, Radiolab, and 99% Invisible.
