TORONTO, July 31, 2024 — Inspirit Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to its Board of Directors: Camille Georgeson-Usher and Lori Tagoona. As board member terms expired, Inspirit recruited individuals with a passion for building a more pluralist society in the context of Inspirit’s vision. Applicants from Indigenous communities were prioritized for this round.

Meet our new board members:

Dr. Camille Georgeson-Usher is a Coast Salish/Sahtu Dene/Scottish scholar, curator, artist and writer from Galiano Island, BC. She is assistant professor of modern and contemporary Indigenous art at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. Through her research, Camile examines the ways in which people move together through space and how public art becomes a site for gathering. In addition to her academic work, she serves on several boards and advisory committees and maintains an active independent curatorial and artistic practice.

Lori Tagoona is of Inuit descent from the Kivalliq region of Nunavut. Lori currently serves as the Manager of Inuit Initiatives at the MakeWay Foundation. In this role, she supports cultural, social, and environmental projects within Inuit Nunangat. Guided by the principle of Inuit stewardship, Lori takes a holistic approach that integrates environmental, social, and cultural facets of Inuit life.  Lori is also an artist with a keen interest in Inuit fashion. She draws inspiration from the clothing and beadwork of generations before her, particularly the women in her family.

The Inspirit Board of Directors is a governance board. Members bring skills, experiences, and understanding of different contexts to help guide the organization’s work. Inspirit’s commitment to equity includes diversity in reflection, geography, skill sets, and lived experiences. The Foundation fosters a board culture that actively engages, values the contributions of, and reflects the diverse stakeholders served.
