Open Iftars with MABELLEArts

Blogs

Last month, we had the opportunity to take part in one of MABELLEArts’s four Open Iftars. MABELLEArts is a 2016 ChangeUp grantee bringing together community members to transform Mabelle, a high-density Toronto Community Housing complex in Central Etobicoke. Bringing together Muslims and non-Muslims to break fast, share space, and make art, these events are important opportunities for deepening relationships. The dinners welcome newcomer families, including refugees, bussing in hundreds of individuals from the Greater Toronto Area.

In addition to the art-making, dance, campfire songs, prayer, and delicious food that contribute to the magic of the evening, young Muslim volunteers have the opportunity to share their practices with the wider community.
